Description

โ›ฐ๏ธ Pretta Climb โ€“ Sovizzo (VI)

Here is the complete sheet of the Pretta climb โ€“ Sovizzo, one of the toughest and most fascinating climbs of the northern Berici Hills.

A short ramp on paper, but a long one in the legs. La Pretta is not climbed: it is conquered.

๐Ÿ“ General information

  • Name: Pretta
  • Location: Sovizzo (VI)
  • Slope analyzed: from the valley floor towards Montemezzo / Righi
  • Length: ~ 2,6 km
  • Difference: ~ 200 m
  • Average slope: Up to 9,42%
  • Maximum slope: ~ 20-21%
  • Starting altitude: ~90 m above sea level
  • Arrival altitude: ~290 m above sea level
  • Classification: BLACK Climb

Numbers that place it among the most selective climbs in the area, not for extension, but for fatigue density per kilometer.

๐Ÿงญ Detailed technical analysis by sector

The altimetric profile tells the story of a climb progressive and ruthless, built like a trap: it attracts you, deceives you, then strikes you.

๐ŸŸก Sector 1 โ€“ Deceptive approach (0 โ€“ 700 m)

  • Slope: 5-7%

The beginning is seemingly manageable.
The road climbs steadily, but never becomes brutal. It's a classic error-prone section: if you get carried away by enthusiasm, you're already using up precious ammunition.

Here you have to go up in absolute control.

๐ŸŸ  Sector 2 โ€“ Construction of the fatigue (700 m โ€“ 1,5 km)

  • Average slope: 7-9%

The climb gets into full swing.
The profile shows a long yellow-orange band: continuous slope, with no real moments of recovery.

It is a trait that:

  • it doesn't break
  • but it empties slowly

This is where the crisis that will explode later is being built.

๐Ÿ”ด Sector 3 โ€“ The Pretta Wall (1,5 โ€“ 2,2 km)

  • Average slope: 12-14%
  • Tips: 20-21%

This is the heart of the climb.
The profile turns solid red: a long and violent central ramp, set in the woods, without wide curves or visual pauses.

It is the feature that gives Pretta its fame:

  • low cadence
  • still bust
  • total concentration

There's no bluffing here: either you have legs, or you sit down.

๐ŸŸข Sector 4 โ€“ Final unlock (2,2 km โ€“ summit)

  • Slope: 5-6%

Once past the wall, the road finally breathes.
The gradient eases, but the fatigue remains. My legs are tired, my heart is high.

It's a psychologically liberating ending: you see the end, but you still have to earn it.

๐Ÿšด Road sensations

La Pretta is a climb that changes face:

  • first he invites you
  • then he measures you
  • finally it puts you to the test

The dominant sensation is that of an ascent tablet, where everything is concentrated in a few kilometers.

When you climb a hill you always have the feeling of having done something serious, even if the Garmin only shows 2,6 km.

๐ŸŒฟ Naturalistic aspects

The climb passes through one of the most authentic areas of the Northern Berici Hills:

  • dense woods
  • scattered vineyards
  • meadows suspended above the plain

The central stretch, immersed in greenery, is silent and wild.
Light filters through the trees, making the wall even more dramatic.

In summer it is a tough climb but protected by the shade.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Presence of artistic and historical places

The Sovizzo and Montemezzo area is rich in:

  • historic districts
  • Venetian rural architecture
  • patrician villas on the ridges

This is not a postcard-like tourist climb, but a road historic hillside connection, dug into the ancient agricultural landscape.

You cycle inside the most authentic structure of the territory.

๐Ÿง  How to deal with it

Recommended Reports

  • Compact 50/34
  • Buy Boxes 11โ€“32 highly recommended

The central wall, with 18% gradients, does not forgive long gear ratios.

Ideal strategy

  1. First km: below threshold, even if it seems easy
  2. Intermediate section: constant rhythm, without jerks
  3. Central wall: cadence, not force
  4. Finish: empty the tank

Here the climb is won with the head before the legs.

๐Ÿ†” Identikit of the climb

Feature Assessment
Length Breve
Slope Very high
Continuity Media
Extreme traits ๐Ÿ”ด Yes
Selectivity Very high
Type of effort Anaerobic + threshold

Personality: mean, concentrated, no-frills climb.
Little talk, lots of character.

Why is it โ€œblackโ€

La Pretta is black because:

  • its final wall exceeds 20%
  • concentrates the effort in a small space
  • does not allow a constant rhythm
  • punishes any management error

It's one of the climbs harder than Sovizzo in relation to the kilometers.

The Gravel Badges

Badge I - Romeo and Juliet Castles

They symbolize the entire new north-western territory of Berici Climbs, the offshoots of the Castellari Mountains, spectacular places of transition between the Berico plateau and the pre-Alpine slopes.

The very difficult Strada dei Carri (Wagon Road) that leads to the castles in the municipality of Montecchio Maggiore is representative of this part of the park.

Badge II - Sanctuary of Monte Berico

A symbolic site for the entire park, of great and rare beauty, beloved by the Giro d'Italia with two stage finishes in ten years. It also hosts two gravel climbs, including the wonderful and pleasant Colonia Bedin.

Badge III-Villabalzana

It represents a bastion, a port of arrival for many climbs in the northern area. A wonderful place surrounded by greenery with breathtaking views of Lake Fimon and the entire pre-Alpine chain.

Badge IV - Grancona

A symbolic place of the southern block, its large square, the church that looks more like an ancient castle and the panoramic terrace overlooking the Val Liona make Grancona a sought-after and desired destination.

Badge V - Hermitage of Dan Donato

It is a magical place, full of spirituality, where the rock of the hills merges with the human action to draw a perfect frame, a painting from which you can admire the skyline of the Euganean Hills and recover the seconds of time passed, here you can perceive the true essence of Berici Climbs, memento vivere.

VI- Gravel Super Hero Badge

The badge that certifies that you are the real heroes! Climbing 50 gravel climbs is a great feat that deserves to be celebrated, because the effort is hard, but even more so is managing to complete a complex journey in an often complicated and crowded life. This is an achievement of resilience and passion, it's your achievement! Hold on to it!
