🔧 Technical analysis of the climb (zone by zone)

1. Start – The glance (red/orange)
The climb begins immediately and decisively from the edge of town. The first few meters are a clear warning: a steep gradient and a surface that requires caution. Here, the red color of the profile clearly reflects the reality on the ground: this isn't a warm-up, it's already a real climb. It's best to find your rhythm immediately and avoid unnecessary sprints.

2. Central section – The heart of Monte Comunale (yellow/green)
After the initial impact, the gradient remains steep but more regular. The profile turns yellow and green, indicating a pedalable but steady pace. The road enters the woods, the surface improves, allowing you to sit in the saddle, working on your gear ratio and breathing. This is the longest and most "mental" part of the climb.

3. Intermediate ramps – The selection (orange/red)
A few short, steep sections break the flow: sharp turns, changes in direction, and sudden gradients test your legs and traction. Here, gravel riding shows its most technical side: fluidity, even weight distribution, and a smooth pedal stroke are required.

4. Finale – Towards the plateau (green/blue)
In the final few meters, the climb becomes gentler. The profile shifts toward cooler colors, the road opens up, and the effort gives way to satisfaction. The forest thins out and the view begins to appear, rewarding the effort.

🚵‍♂️ Gravel sensations

Monte Comunale is a climb with substance: few concessions, plenty of continuity. The sensations are those of authentic gravel riding, where managing your effort matters more than speed. The wheels bite into the dirt, the silence of the forest accompanies the effort, and every meter gained is truly felt.

🌿 Naturalistic aspects

The route passes through one of the greenest areas of the Berici Hills. Downy oak and hop hornbeam forests, unexpected clearings, and shady sections make the climb refreshing even on hot days. It's not uncommon to encounter local wildlife or hear only the sound of the chain and tires on the dirt road.

🏛️ Artistic and cultural places

The Monte Comunale area is linked to the rural traditions of the Berici Hills: votive shrines, old stone farmhouses, and traces of the historic forest management accompany the climb. Further down, Brendola preserves Venetian villas and architecture linked to rural civilization.

🧠 How to deal with it

  • Relationships: a lean gear ratio is recommended (compact or well-scaled single chainring)
  • Tires: at least 38–42 mm for comfort and traction
  • Strategy: don't push it at the beginning, the climb is long and selective
  • Technique: remain seated as much as possible, only getting up during the hardest stretches

🪪 Identikit of the climb

  • Character: severe, continuous
  • Style: classic gravel for hills
  • Ideal for: those looking for a real challenge without Alpine extremes
  • To remember for: the challenging regularity and total immersion in the woods

Municipal Mountain It's not a climb to be collected absentmindedly: it's a line to be respected, read, and pedaled intelligently. A true red, speaking the language of the most authentic gravel of the Berici Hills.

The Gravel Badges

Badge I - Romeo and Juliet Castles

They symbolize the entire new north-western territory of Berici Climbs, the offshoots of the Castellari Mountains, spectacular places of transition between the Berico plateau and the pre-Alpine slopes.

The very difficult Strada dei Carri (Wagon Road) that leads to the castles in the municipality of Montecchio Maggiore is representative of this part of the park.

Badge II - Sanctuary of Monte Berico

A symbolic site for the entire park, of great and rare beauty, beloved by the Giro d'Italia with two stage finishes in ten years. It also hosts two gravel climbs, including the wonderful and pleasant Colonia Bedin.

Badge III-Villabalzana

It represents a bastion, a port of arrival for many climbs in the northern area. A wonderful place surrounded by greenery with breathtaking views of Lake Fimon and the entire pre-Alpine chain.

Badge IV - Grancona

A symbolic place of the southern block, its large square, the church that looks more like an ancient castle and the panoramic terrace overlooking the Val Liona make Grancona a sought-after and desired destination.

Badge V - Hermitage of Dan Donato

It is a magical place, full of spirituality, where the rock of the hills merges with the human action to draw a perfect frame, a painting from which you can admire the skyline of the Euganean Hills and recover the seconds of time passed, here you can perceive the true essence of Berici Climbs, memento vivere.

VI- Gravel Super Hero Badge

The badge that certifies that you are the real heroes! Climbing 50 gravel climbs is a great feat that deserves to be celebrated, because the effort is hard, but even more so is managing to complete a complex journey in an often complicated and crowded life.
