An intense yellow: short, elegant, panoramic. A few minutes of effort, many meters of beauty.

An unexpected and for many unexplored climb, it starts at high altitude and launches into the sky of the Berici Hills at a truly high altitude of 414m! A breathtaking view of Barbarano Vicentino is the reward of this magnificent climb dedicated to the Madonna of San Giovanni in Monte who dominates just before the finish line with a gigantic statue.

A short climb, but far from trivial: a few kilometres that condense character, technique and panorama.

๐Ÿง  Detailed technical analysis

The Madonna of San Giovanni is a climb in miniature, with a surprisingly complete structure.

๐Ÿ”ด Sector 1 โ€“ The Initial Wall (0 โ€“ 0,4 km | 10โ€“15%)

The attack is immediately severe:

  • Double-digit slope
  • Dry ramps over 14โ€“15%
  • Curves that do not allow rhythm

Here we enter the heart of the climb coldly.
It is the trait that defines overall fatigue.

๐ŸŸก Sector 2 โ€“ The Central Ramp (0,4โ€“0,9 km | 7โ€“9%)

Once past the wall, the slope remains steep but more regular:

  • Ideal for stabilizing the step
  • Feeling of a โ€œreal climbโ€
  • Effort still deep, but controllable

Here the progression towards the sanctuary is built.

๐ŸŸข Sector 3 โ€“ The Final Exit (0,9 โ€“ 1,26 km | 5โ€“6%)

In the final stretch the road becomes gentler:

  • More humane slope
  • Possibility to relaunch
  • Panorama that opens onto the plain

The legs burn, but the bike starts flowing again.

๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ Sensations on the road

It's a climb that it doesn't leave you time to settle in:

  • Parts already in oxygen debt
  • You settle in the middle
  • You breathe again only at the top

Short, but intense.
A climb that seems easyโ€ฆ until you do it.

๐ŸŒฟ Naturalistic aspects

The route climbs one of the brightest slopes of the Berici Hills:

  • sparse woods
  • Open clearings
  • Progressive view of the Vicenza plain

In a few minutes you go from the intimacy of the woods to full light of the height.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Historical and artistic presences

The climb takes its name from its final jewel:

โ›ช Sanctuary of Our Lady of San Giovanni

  • Ancient hilltop place of worship
  • Extraordinary panoramic point
  • Symbol of the rural religiosity of the Berici Hills

Here the effort finds a aesthetic and spiritual reward.

๐Ÿงฉ How to deal with it

In short: you can push, but carefully.

โš™๏ธ Recommended reports

  • Compact 50/34
  • Cassette 11โ€“30 or 11โ€“32

๐Ÿง  Strategy

  • First step: control your momentum
  • Central sector: full but stable pace
  • Final: decisive progression

It is needed here controlled explosiveness.

The Gravel Badges

Badge I - Romeo and Juliet Castles

They symbolize the entire new north-western territory of Berici Climbs, the offshoots of the Castellari Mountains, spectacular places of transition between the Berico plateau and the pre-Alpine slopes.

The very difficult Strada dei Carri (Wagon Road) that leads to the castles in the municipality of Montecchio Maggiore is representative of this part of the park.

Badge II - Sanctuary of Monte Berico

A symbolic site for the entire park, of great and rare beauty, beloved by the Giro d'Italia with two stage finishes in ten years. It also hosts two gravel climbs, including the wonderful and pleasant Colonia Bedin.

Badge III-Villabalzana

It represents a bastion, a port of arrival for many climbs in the northern area. A wonderful place surrounded by greenery with breathtaking views of Lake Fimon and the entire pre-Alpine chain.

Badge IV - Grancona

A symbolic place of the southern block, its large square, the church that looks more like an ancient castle and the panoramic terrace overlooking the Val Liona make Grancona a sought-after and desired destination.

Badge V - Hermitage of Dan Donato

It is a magical place, full of spirituality, where the rock of the hills merges with the human action to draw a perfect frame, a painting from which you can admire the skyline of the Euganean Hills and recover the seconds of time passed, here you can perceive the true essence of Berici Climbs, memento vivere.

VI- Gravel Super Hero Badge

The badge that certifies that you are the real heroes! Climbing 50 gravel climbs is a great feat that deserves to be celebrated, because the effort is hard, but even more so is managing to complete a complex journey in an often complicated and crowded life. This is an achievement of resilience and passion, it's your achievement! Hold on to it!
