Description

Itinerary No. 35 – THE RED BERICI CLIMBS

Road Bike · Berici Hills
~106 km · ~2.480 m D+

The Reds of Berici Climbs it's not just any tour: it's a declaration of intentHere we enter the territory of true climbs, the kind that allow no concessions, where the pace must be managed with clarity and the bottom end of the gear suddenly becomes precious. An itinerary designed for those who love "clean" effort, the kind that lingers in the legs but also in the memory.

Red like the things you do to me... try! Total red itinerary with a selection of the most significant red climbs of Berici Climbs.
We start strong with the short but challenging one climb n.6 TORMENELLO This takes us to the Berici ridge, from which we descend almost immediately, following the military road. We arrive at Fimon, where we tackle the legendary climb no. 10. RAPOSSO (be careful, it's a black climb!), then descend back into the valley after Arcugnano along Via Sacco. After a few kilometers we tackle the climb n.14 PIANEZZEa really challenging but absolutely fantastic redhead! From San Giovanni in Monte you descend towards Barbarano Vicentino via the wild Via Gianelli and set off to climb the climb no. 33 FAGNINI (be careful, it's a yellow climb) full of spectacular views. We head downhill towards Zovencedo and Val Liona, we go around the San Germano hill and we start pedalling on the double-digit gradients of the climb no. 45 SANT'ANTONIO. You then go downhill towards the Pozzolo Valley and descend again towards Pederiva. Let's now tackle the climb no. 42 SAN GOTTARDO up to San Gottardo and we go downhill on the Berici ridge until the Pilla descent which we will follow up to Nogarazza. We face the Colle di Valmarana by climbing the climb n.94 CIMA 12(be careful, it's a black climb!). The last climb of the tour is the dreaded climb no. 98. GIASSARA (Be careful, it's a black climb!); we return to the starting/finishing point via the ridge and then via Vegre.

NB To fully enjoy this magnificent itinerary we recommend starting from the starting point.

Path profile

  • Area asphalt
  • Development: long and selective
  • Character: challenging, progressive
  • Ideal bike: road with agile gear ratios (34×30 recommended)

Reading the altimetric profile

The profile tells a clear story: significant climbs, distributed along the entire route, with an already demanding first part and an unforgiving second half. There are no long recovery sections: the descents are for breathing, not relaxing. The total elevation gain exceeds 2.400 meters, but it is the quality of climbs to really make a difference.

The climbs of the 100 Berici Climbs

🔴 Climb No. 6 – Tormenello red category

A sharp and taut climb, typical of the Veronese. A steady gradient and a fast pace right from the start: a perfect initial test.

Climb No. 10 – Raposso black category

One of the most feared climbs in the Berici Hills. Short, tough, uncompromising. Here you go with strength and head down.

🔴 Climb No. 14 – Pianezze red category

Longer and more consistent than other reds, but it's demanding. It requires management: those who start strong pay off in the end.

🟡 Climb No. 33 – Fagnini yellow category

A yellow only on paper: it arrives mid-sequence and makes its presence felt. Excellent for regaining rhythm before the biggest difficulties.

🔴 Climb No. 45 – Sant'Antonio red category

A narrow road, a quiet atmosphere, and a steep gradient. A climb from the Berici Hills, intense and serene.

🔴 Climb No. 42 – San Gottardo red category

Historic and demanding. It's one of those climbs that never completely gives up and forces you to stay focused all the way to the top.

Climb No. 94 – Peak 12 black category

A real wall. Short but deadly, steep, and with very little margin for error. This is where we enter hardcore territory.

Climb No. 98 – Giassara black category

A thrilling finale. Giassara is a climb that seals the tour: steep, selective, iconic. If you arrive here with some energy left in your legs, you're on the right track.

Sensations in the saddle

  • Line of Business hard but tremendously satisfying
  • Requires planning and energy management
  • Ideal for testing condition and head
  • Beautiful views… when you can look at them

Final evaluation

  • difficulty: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
  • Physical commitment: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
  • Character: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • target: expert road cyclists, lovers of steep climbs

In short (Italian only)

The Reds of Berici Climbs is the cycling maturity tour: you don't improvise, you prepare.

The Gravel Badges

Badge I - Romeo and Juliet Castles

They symbolize the entire new north-western territory of Berici Climbs, the offshoots of the Castellari Mountains, spectacular places of transition between the Berico plateau and the pre-Alpine slopes.

The very difficult Strada dei Carri (Wagon Road) that leads to the castles in the municipality of Montecchio Maggiore is representative of this part of the park.

Badge II - Sanctuary of Monte Berico

A symbolic site for the entire park, of great and rare beauty, beloved by the Giro d'Italia with two stage finishes in ten years. It also hosts two gravel climbs, including the wonderful and pleasant Colonia Bedin.

Badge III-Villabalzana

It represents a bastion, a port of arrival for many climbs in the northern area. A wonderful place surrounded by greenery with breathtaking views of Lake Fimon and the entire pre-Alpine chain.

Badge IV - Grancona

A symbolic place of the southern block, its large square, the church that looks more like an ancient castle and the panoramic terrace overlooking the Val Liona make Grancona a sought-after and desired destination.

Badge V - Hermitage of Dan Donato

It is a magical place, full of spirituality, where the rock of the hills merges with the human action to draw a perfect frame, a painting from which you can admire the skyline of the Euganean Hills and recover the seconds of time passed, here you can perceive the true essence of Berici Climbs, memento vivere.

VI- Gravel Super Hero Badge

The badge that certifies that you are the real heroes! Climbing 50 gravel climbs is a great feat that deserves to be celebrated, because the effort is hard, but even more so is managing to complete a complex journey in an often complicated and crowded life. This is an achievement of resilience and passion, it's your achievement! Hold on to it!
