THE OUTER RING COUNTERCLOCKWISE

Description

ITINERARY n.8

Outer Ring of the Berici Hills – counterclockwise

The long ride that measures endurance, management and cycling intelligence

The Counterclockwise Outer Ring It's the mirror image of the hour ring, but it completely changes the way you perceive the effort. Here, the elevation gain isn't immediately striking: it is left to wait, hides in the distance, only to present the bill at the end.

It's an itinerary from real bottom, more mental than explosive, ideal for those who love to grind out the miles at a steady pace.

The external ring is the almost exclusively flat itinerary that circumnavigates the entire Berici Hills area. The tour runs entirely along cycle paths and in any case roads with low traffic. In the first part of the anti-clockwise tour we continue westwards touching Altavilla Vicentina and Brendola. The road heads south-west towards Meledo, greets the Brendola amphitheater and keeps the Grancona hill on the left. We head south along the Guà stream cycle path dedicated to the late Vicenza champion Davide Rebellin. From Bagnolo we head north east towards Spessa and then head north again skirting the Berici hills along the eastern side and the many beautiful cycle stations. The ring ends in Vicenza with the only climb of the day, the cobblestone climb n.2 NANI MONTE BERICO.

Path profile

  • Type: outer ring
  • Direction of travel: counterclockwise
  • Distance: long
  • Difference: contained but distributed
  • difficulty: average per accumulation

Reading the altimetric profile

🔹 Start (Vicenza → southern plain)

The tour starts immediately with a recognizable feature:

  • short initial bursts,
  • immediately after a long flat or slightly undulating phase.

It's the perfect time to warm up your legs without stressing them.

🔹 Central body (30–70 km)

Here the profile is made almost flat:

  • wide streets
  • high pedalability
  • steady pace

The difficulty lies entirely in the effort management: easy to get fooled and push too hard.

🔹 Finale (return to Vicenza)

In the last few kilometers the altimetry comes to life again:

  • short climbs
  • dry tears
  • growing nervousness

This is where the climb that is the symbol of the itinerary arrives.

The ascent of the 100 Berici Climbs in evidence

  • Never extreme, but constant

Environment and landscape

  • Large tracts of plain
  • Outer perimeter of the Berici Hills
  • Open views and wide horizons
  • Feeling of “great tour”

It is not a route that enters the wild heart of the Berici Hills, but there embraces completely, providing a very clear geographical and cycling reading of the territory.

To whom it is recommended

  • Endurance cyclists
  • Endurance training
  • Trips over 3 hours
  • Who wants to work on rhythm and consistency

Less suitable for those looking for challenging slopes or pure strength work.

In short (Italian only)

The Counterclockwise Outer Ring it is an itinerary of intelligent resistance:
flowing, long, never violent, but capable of testing those who underestimate it.

La Dwarves of Monte Berico, the only climb of the 100 Berici Climbs present, it is the final seal:
a symbolic and physical return to the starting point, where the legs truly tell the story of what the ride was like.

The Gravel Badges

Badge I - Romeo and Juliet Castles

They symbolize the entire new north-western territory of Berici Climbs, the offshoots of the Castellari Mountains, spectacular places of transition between the Berico plateau and the pre-Alpine slopes.

The very difficult Strada dei Carri (Wagon Road) that leads to the castles in the municipality of Montecchio Maggiore is representative of this part of the park.

Badge II - Sanctuary of Monte Berico

A symbolic site for the entire park, of great and rare beauty, beloved by the Giro d'Italia with two stage finishes in ten years. It also hosts two gravel climbs, including the wonderful and pleasant Colonia Bedin.

Badge III-Villabalzana

It represents a bastion, a port of arrival for many climbs in the northern area. A wonderful place surrounded by greenery with breathtaking views of Lake Fimon and the entire pre-Alpine chain.

Badge IV - Grancona

A symbolic place of the southern block, its large square, the church that looks more like an ancient castle and the panoramic terrace overlooking the Val Liona make Grancona a sought-after and desired destination.

Badge V - Hermitage of Dan Donato

It is a magical place, full of spirituality, where the rock of the hills merges with the human action to draw a perfect frame, a painting from which you can admire the skyline of the Euganean Hills and recover the seconds of time passed, here you can perceive the true essence of Berici Climbs, memento vivere.

VI- Gravel Super Hero Badge

The badge that certifies that you are the real heroes! Climbing 50 gravel climbs is a great feat that deserves to be celebrated, because the effort is hard, but even more so is managing to complete a complex journey in an often complicated and crowded life. This is an achievement of resilience and passion, it's your achievement! Hold on to it!
