72H CHALLENGE DAY 3

Description

ITINERARY N.53 – 72H CHALLENGE · DAY 3

The Epilogue: When the Berici Hills Decide Who You Really Are

Distance: 103 km
Difference: 2.448 m
Plot: hilly asphalt, secondary roads
Character: selective, epic, relentless

Il Day 3 it's the showdown.
After two already very tough days, this itinerary does not allow discounts: the profile is a continuous sequence of waves, with three large hilly blocks and a series of final walls that transform fatigue into pure determination.

If Day 1 was the adventure and Day 2 was the selection, the name of the finishers is written here.

The route: three acts like a queen stage

🔹 Km 0–25 | The Sweet Trap

We start with short, seemingly innocuous ups and downs. In reality, it's a phase of exhaustion: the group disperses, the legs warm up, but the real climb is yet to come.

🔹 Km 25–60 | The Black Heart of the Berici Hills

Here the profile explodes: a long chain of hills with no flat terrain. It's the toughest section of the entire contest, with consecutive walls that leave no room for recovery.

🔹 Km 60–90 | Technical, nervous, ruthless

Curves, steep sections, short descents, and constant relaunches. It's an area that breaks your rhythm and your mind.

🔹 Km 90–103 | The Last Breath

An emotional finale: short ramps and the final crest leading to the finish line. There's no more racing here. we resist.

Berici Climbs Day 3

A collection of authentic “monsters”, with four black ones.

GIASSARA – n.98 (black)

An initial wall that immediately sets the tone for the day.

🟡 SAN ROCCO – n.15 (yellow)

Short but mean, it breaks the rhythm.

🔴 OLIVE ROAD – No. 19 (red)

Panoramic, long, with severe features: a classic of the Berici Hills.

PELIZZE – n.49 (black)

Tight, hard, breathless. It's truly painful here.

(I.e. CAVES – n.62 (blue)

Regular, almost “gentle”, but it hits a delicate point.

🟡 FOSCOLO ISONZO – n.67 (yellow)

An endurance climb, to be done with heart as well as legs.

MURARONI – n.71 (black)

One of the most feared: steep slope and narrow roadway.

🢢 BREGANZOLA – n.100 (green)

The final seal. Not a harsh one, but symbolic: the end of the journey.

The meaning of Day 3

This itinerary is not just a stage: it is a rite of passage.
Whoever reaches the end has crossed the soul of the Berici, has seen every one of their faces: sweet, tough, wild.

The 72H Challenge ends here, where fatigue becomes memory and the road, finally, home.

The Gravel Badges

Badge I - Romeo and Juliet Castles

They symbolize the entire new north-western territory of Berici Climbs, the offshoots of the Castellari Mountains, spectacular places of transition between the Berico plateau and the pre-Alpine slopes.

The very difficult Strada dei Carri (Wagon Road) that leads to the castles in the municipality of Montecchio Maggiore is representative of this part of the park.

Badge II - Sanctuary of Monte Berico

A symbolic site for the entire park, of great and rare beauty, beloved by the Giro d'Italia with two stage finishes in ten years. It also hosts two gravel climbs, including the wonderful and pleasant Colonia Bedin.

Badge III-Villabalzana

It represents a bastion, a port of arrival for many climbs in the northern area. A wonderful place surrounded by greenery with breathtaking views of Lake Fimon and the entire pre-Alpine chain.

Badge IV - Grancona

A symbolic place of the southern block, its large square, the church that looks more like an ancient castle and the panoramic terrace overlooking the Val Liona make Grancona a sought-after and desired destination.

Badge V - Hermitage of Dan Donato

It is a magical place, full of spirituality, where the rock of the hills merges with the human action to draw a perfect frame, a painting from which you can admire the skyline of the Euganean Hills and recover the seconds of time passed, here you can perceive the true essence of Berici Climbs, memento vivere.

VI- Gravel Super Hero Badge

The badge that certifies that you are the real heroes! Climbing 50 gravel climbs is a great feat that deserves to be celebrated, because the effort is hard, but even more so is managing to complete a complex journey in an often complicated and crowded life. This is an achievement of resilience and passion, it's your achievement! Hold on to it!
