Berici Climbs was created to help people discover the beauty of the Berici Hills, a hilly area located in Veneto in the province of Vicenza, the city of Palladio.
The Berici Hills are the remnants of an ancient tropical sea; their fossil-rich carbonate rocks are evidence of coral reefs dating back 100 million years. The entire Berici Hills encompasses 27 municipalities, covering a total area of 626,44 square kilometers. The hilly district occupies a vast area, extending across the Veneto plain in a sort of parallelogram with a major axis of approximately 25 km and a perimeter of nearly 80 km. It reaches altitudes of around 300-400 meters above sea level, with the Cima Coppi peak located near Monte Lungo (municipality of Barbarano Mossano) at 421 meters above sea level. In addition to the Berici Hills area, the Berici Climbs Park in the northern part encompasses a transition zone between the Berici and Lessini Mountains, encompassing the municipalities of Montecchio Maggiore, Sovizzo, Creazzo, and Monteviale.
The southern part includes the Colli di Albettone and its hamlets of Lovolo and Lovertino, as well as the small rugged areas of the municipality of Montegalda to the south-east.
The Berici Hills are the perfect terrain for those who want to train their legs in every season and on every type of climb, a veritable gym to prepare for the legendary Alpine climbs. The idea was to create something unique, permanent, accessible to all, and at the same time enhance a wonderful, yet still little-known, area.
Matteo Mastrovita, 50 years old, manager in the photovoltaic sector, graduated in Geological Sciences, is married to Chiara and father of two children: Riccardo, 14 years old, and Francesco, 5 years old.
A great sports enthusiast (marathon runner and triathlete), bicycle enthusiast and cartography enthusiast, he combined his passion for geographical discovery with his love for the Vicenza area and for cycling climbs, creating Berici Climbs, the largest cycling tourism park in Italy!
In this vast territory, 100 climbs for road bikes, 50 climbs for gravel/MTB bikes, and over 80 itineraries have been mapped and classified. Inspired by the most beautiful and extensive ski areas, the idea was to introduce a 5-color classification to identify the 5 different difficulty levels of the climbs and itineraries:
They symbolize the entire new north-western territory of Berici Climbs, the offshoots of the Castellari Mountains, spectacular places of transition between the Berico plateau and the pre-Alpine slopes.
The very difficult Strada dei Carri (Wagon Road) that leads to the castles in the municipality of Montecchio Maggiore is representative of this part of the park.
A symbolic site for the entire park, of great and rare beauty, beloved by the Giro d'Italia with two stage finishes in ten years. It also hosts two gravel climbs, including the wonderful and pleasant Colonia Bedin.
It represents a bastion, a port of arrival for many climbs in the northern area. A wonderful place surrounded by greenery with breathtaking views of Lake Fimon and the entire pre-Alpine chain.
A symbolic place of the southern block, its large square, the church that looks more like an ancient castle and the panoramic terrace overlooking the Val Liona make Grancona a sought-after and desired destination.
It is a magical place, full of spirituality, where the rock of the hills merges with the human action to draw a perfect frame, a painting from which you can admire the skyline of the Euganean Hills and recover the seconds of time passed, here you can perceive the true essence of Berici Climbs, memento vivere.
The badge that certifies that you are the real heroes! Climbing 50 gravel climbs is a great feat that deserves to be celebrated, because the effort is hard, but even more so is managing to complete a complex journey in an often complicated and crowded life. This is an achievement of resilience and passion, it's your achievement! Hold on to it!
